Warm welcome

On arrival in the school in Pinerolo, we were escorted into the building and given light refreshments.

After dividing our group of 29 into half, we became the guests in a french lesson. The italian students were extremely vocal, expressive and loud, as it took close to 20 minutes for them to organise themselves into a seated position, ready to ask simple questions, in french, to the french students. It was difficult for both the italian and the french students, as their ability levels made easy conversation difficult. Nevertheless, it was an excellent learning experience for everyone.

We were now ready to experience our home stay families. My host was a wonderful woman, L,who was born in the South of Italy. Her eyes and body language radiated love, goodness and warmth. I was very happy indeed, that she spoke english, extremely well.

L took me to her 3rd floor, 3 bedroomed apartment. I was given a very comfortable divan to sleep on. I was most grateful for two hours of solitude to gather my wits before the evening's events.

Next, a very noisy buffet dinner with lots of interesting italian food donated by all the host families.

The host school specialises in music and we were treated to a brilliant concert by all the budding musicians.

I LOVED every moment. The music was mainly classical. I revelled in the talents and excellence that these young people demonstrated.

My bed was made up with beautiful sheets that L had given to her many years ago. I knocked off to sleep almost as instantly as the light went out.
